Thermal Insulation

Proper roof insulation is not only a requirement but a necessity. Its benefits are noticeable in winter — with lower heating costs — as well as in summer, when well-insulated spaces remain cool. The most commonly used roof insulation materials today are fibrous, natural-origin materials such as mineral wool. ROCKWOOL offers comprehensive solutions for pitched and flat roofs. Their products are made of top-quality stone wool to ensure warmth and comfort in your home.

Waterproofing

The roof is constantly exposed to harsh weather conditions — rain, snow, strong winds, and low temperatures test its endurance every day. Proper waterproofing prevents the degradation of not only the roof structure but also the entire building. One way to protect the roof against water damage is by using heat-welded bituminous membranes with polyester reinforcement. Another method involves applying a waterproofing layer made from special EPDM or PVC membranes or similar materials.

Roof Membranes

No matter their specific role, roof membranes are an integral part of roof construction. On the outer side of the slope, reinforced, wind- and water-resistant vapor-permeable membranes are used. These are known as roofing membranes and are categorized by their level of vapor permeability, which is stated on the product label.

Vapor barrier membranes are installed beneath the rafters and block water vapor from the interior. This helps protect the thermal insulation layer from moisture and maintains its insulating performance. Proper roof protection ensures a healthy indoor microclimate and promotes better health.

  • The roof is one of the most important parts of any building. It doesn’t only protect against weather but also helps retain heat inside the home.
  • An uninsulated or poorly insulated roof can account for up to 30% heat loss, significantly increasing heating costs.
  • Choosing the right insulation materials with proper thermal properties is key to effective protection.
  • When selecting insulation, factors such as thermal conductivity coefficient (λ), thickness, and fire resistance must be taken into account.
